Chiropractic / Back pain is becoming common in adults aged 40 and older. According to some authentic surveys, approximately 70-80 percent of people have back pain at some point of their life and about 5% of them have lower back pain that is costly and time taking. Due to poor economic conditions in some countries few people are able to afford treatment for any kind of back pain, whereas a handful of them are able to get full relief. In many cases, it is a good doctor or they have power to afford heavy expenses.

A chiropractic treatment is made for different pain treatments. Such as neck pain, headache, pain in joints of arms and legs, lower back pain and mid back pain. Patients are often confused regarding chiropractic treatment for back pain. So for those who are confused it is advised that having chiropractic treatment will relief you in all types of back pains but it is advised to acknowledge your doctor about the exact spot of your pain.

While having such kind of treatment for back pain your body will resist in any kind mobilizing, it might stop you for repeating the treatment again and again, it might show some increase in pain and there would some frequent awakens during sleep. So any of this ever happens don’t give up. At the older stage or even in mid 30’s we try to get rid of pain as quickly as possible and when a treatment seems harder than expected then many patients try to run away or skip daily even weekly treatments.

Therefore, after having a chiropractic treatment, you will feel free of any kind of back pain. The reason is; this treatment is done manually through natural resources mainly, but depending on type of back pain that patient is having. While doing it manually physical will know the exact spot of that pain and manipulate according to the location and intense of pain on his/her patient.

To get a quick relief, always follow advice of your doctor and work accordingly to the given advice as they know what is best for you.

Prevention of back pain

Back pain can be easily prevented by performing a few activities with stretching being the key and by doing a few things correctly. Stretching is the best way towards keeping distance from back pain; it helps to loosen up muscles of the back thereby reducing the chances of tear. It is ideal to perform during the morning hours after waking up and at night before sleep. Most people do reap benefits of routine stretching but you should consult your physician or chiropractor before executing your plans.

The stretches performed should be smooth to avoid any jerks on the body. Bouncing should always be avoided; they may cause back injury. When starting, don’t put too much pressure, exercise till a slight stretch is experienced and slowly increase intensity as days go by. If you feel any discomfort or even pain, it means you’re stretching too much and stop immediately to avoid muscle tear and injuries. Consume fluids, preferably water to rehydrate.

Some of the things that should be done the right way to prevent back pain are mentioned below:

  • Use proper techniques for lifting heavy objects to avoid back problems. They should never be lifted with back muscles; the strong muscles of legs should be used. Keep the back straight for lifting hefty objects and if you need to turn, use feet instead of back to avoid injuries.
  • If you work for long hours at desk, frequent breaks should be taken and if you face problems with posture, take help of adaptive devices in order to keep healthy posture.
  • Using proper chair is also essential; the chair should be of comfortable height and provide good cushioning at the back for comfort. Keeping both feet comfortably on the floor will reduce strain on your back.
  • Height of the chair should be such that you don’t need to bend forward while doing work nor be stiff, it is important in order to have a proper posture.
  • If you work on computers for a long time, place the screen at a comfortable angle that puts less strain on your neck.

Neuropathic back pain

Neuropathic back pain, also known as ‘neuralgia’ is a form of chronic back pain. As with chronic pain symptoms include; a continuous numbness in the lower back area, a sharp or stabbing pain, a deep burning or coldness in the effected area and may cause pain in the arms and or legs as well as the back. However other symptoms include; being hypersensitive to touch, a loss of bowel or bladder control and coordination difficulties. Neuropathy is any type of pain that is caused by a compression of the nerves. In some cases Neuropathic back pain results from damage to the central nervous system and can be caused by, phantom limb pain, diabetes, tumours or regional pain syndrome (RPS).

As with chronic back pain Neuropathic pain causes the sufferer to have a limited daily life, for example they may be unable to perform their job or even get to their job and it may limit their social life or activities. This can lead to the patient feeling worse and worse, causing; sleeplessness, stress and depression. Therefore it is extremely important that sufferers consult their general practitioner in order to be refered to a specialist Orthopedic Pysician.

As neuropathic back pain is a symptom of another medical condition it is often difficult for a GP to diagnose, therefore it may be necassery for the doctor to carry out an electromyography. An electromyography measures the electrical discharges from the muscle and nerves in order to establish how quickly signals are being carried from the muscles to the brain.

If the neorpathic pain is relatively mild it may be possible that the pain can be treated with prescription pain killers and over the counter medicines. However these should only be used as short term measure in order to avoid long term risks of the medication itself. Treatment may also come in the form of medication that is classed as anti-seizure medicine as this kind of medication works by blocking off the pain signals to the brain. Some anti-depressant medication also works by blocking off pain signals and so this can also be precribed as a treatment for neuropathic back pain.
